Third time lucky we present our open genre listening event with very special live performances from modular mastermind Colloboh with (Pan African People's Arkestra) Drummer Mickey Maestro, a live set from Ulla and modular improvisation from Billy Caso.
Also performing are Pablo Diserens and a selection from Berlin based DJ NaN.
COLLOBOH
Headlining our show will be dear friend Colloboh, (a portmanteau of Collins Oboh) is a Nigerian-born, Los Angeles-based experimental producer and composer who has spent the past several years cultivating genre-spanning modular wizardry. A self-taught synthesist, Colloboh’s DIY recording diaries (still archived on Instagram) quickly amassed a dedicated online following, eventually catching the eye of Leaving Records founder, MatthewDavid, who wasted no time tapping the then-twenty-six-year-old to perform at the monthly Leaving showcase, Listen to Music Outside In The Daylight Under a Tree. In 2021, Colloboh permanently relocated to Los Angeles from Baltimore, dedicating himself to music full-time, and quickly becoming a fixture of the city’s vibrant experimental scene. Whereas Colloboh’s debut EP Entity Relation (released that same year) dove headlong into club beats, Saana Sahel, out May 5th 2023 on Leaving Records, showcases the breadth of the fledgeling composer’s ambitions. ULLA
Ulla is a Philadelphia-based ambient artist. She started releasing music in 2016. and within a short time produced an output that is impressive both in quantity and quality. In 2020, starting with the album Tumbling Towards A Wall, she changed her artist name from Ulla Straus to Ulla. Her latest album is foam from 2022. Besides releasing solo work, she has collaborated with artists such as fellow Philadelphian Pontiac Streator and Perila (as Perila and Ulla, and LOG). She is a also a member of The Blessed Kitty, virtualdemonlaxative and wiggle room.
BILLY CASO
Originally from South England, music producer and collector Billy Caso has spend the last 10 years in Berlin building his musical foundations and ideas. Founder of tape label and open genre listening event Pastiche International, Billy has his heart set on opening minds and breaking musical boundaries that he feels are currently restricting true creativity. Through his psychedelic blend of genre mashing productions with features from the likes of Miguel Atwood Ferguson, Brandon Coleman, Fly Anakin and Nailah Hunter to name a few, Billy has his musical vision set on something vast and undefined. Not to mention his mind-bending collage-style DJ sets, beat-tapes and various cult-followed mix series such as 'The Barefoot Adventures' and 'Home Comforts', Billy has just finished recording his debut album ‘Planet Earth’ with information to be announced very soon.
PABLO DISERENS
Pablo Diserens (they/she) is a field recordist, musician and artist devoted to attentive listening, non-human realities, and possible forms of interspecies coexistence. Rooted in ecological engagement and site-specificity, they investigate gestures of presence through a weaving of sound, images and texts. These bring to the foreground the acoustic, bio- and geological features of explored environments with the intention of fostering earthly connections. Works materialize in various forms that emphasize listening as a radical, political practice, and flirt with a myriad of (sur)realities and ecoacoustic phenomena. Propositions that operate within polymorphic ways of inhabiting and shapeshifting among non-human bodies. In solidarity with a wounded planet, Diserens’ practice invites people to attune to the present in an attempt at rethinking caring strategies and our relationship with the world and its biotic communities.
